2015 Lincoln Cent - Weird Rim

#1 Unread post by Justice41ca »

Hi All,

Before you direct me to error. -ref can you please tell me which heading to look under - I am lost,
I remember seeing this just can't remember where. Even when coins are not errors, I still try and inventory them with the correct verbiage.
Or is this an error?
It doesn't look like a clasp around it. I have a penny that does and totally different.

Yes, I know but I have only been doing this for a few months. I have read so many books and pages and watched so many videos that it seems it is all running together, and I am not retaining it all.

Don't expect you to give me the answer but can you push me in the right direction. Thanks

I agree. The surfaces being as mottled as they are is a great indicator of this as well.

If you take the link in Daniel's video and read through the post at CCF, you will also find dryers are not the only culprits. Laundromats of old commonly used Westinghouse Streamliner RL-1 washing machines:

As can be seen these had an almost vertical tub. I remember helping my grandfather tearing these apart to clean them, and have a memory of specifically finding a penny "dryer coin" in between the tubs the first time helped (also found out what a nut driver was that day as well for removing the front panel sheet metal screws!)

To this day the motor I use for my wire wheel and grinding stone in my shop is made from one of the motors from this type of machine.

Anyway...I think the excess "sludge" (dirt particles) that would accumulate in between the tubs (small rocks/sand etc falling through tiny holes in the inner drum, is what caused the faces of the coins to become so mottled. We would find other items laying in that sludge as well.

Earl it was you. I went to the other site, and I not only saw your post but saved the page. When I followed Daniel's directions and pulled up the page, I noticed it had the star highlighted, I knew I had seen before but couldn't remember where. Thank you
