1924 Standing Liberty Quarter w/Strike thru REV/OBV?

#1 Unread post by adikora »

Hello everyone and greetings from Switzerland,
I hope everybody is healthy and doing well.
Here is a 1924 Standing Liberty Quarter with a strike thru reverse to obverse, if such thing exists.
I've marked the area of the possible strike thru on the obverse and reverse of the coin, they kind of coincide.
Any comments/opinions would be quiet helpful and much appreciated.
Regards,
Andy

The pics seem to show what appears to be a very nice die clash. However...

This, unfortunately is a fake. 😕

How can you tell?

The details in some ares are "mushy and pitted" whether on high points of the design or not. Then when you start looking for the intricate details in side by side photos (photo of legitimate 1924 SLW from https://tinyurl.com/yy23m94h) you can see obvious wrong details in the design:

Hi Earle,
Thank you for your response to my post. I appreciate the Master Class you gave me about fake SLQs, The difference is obvious.
If it's too good to be true it ought to be fake.
Thanks again,
Andy

Glad to be able to help. The excitement is what the fakers count on. Just make it a to tell initial excitement to take a hike until after close scrutiny. This includes slabbed coins as well since there are a lot of fake slabs out there as well (its also smart to assess a legitimately slabbed coin as well).
