1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Our community is not a soap box for complaining or drama, so please refrain from doing so here.[/size]

2011 P Roosevelt dime- damage or error
Can anyone tell me if this is a mint error or damage and if so, how the damage might have occurred. Just looking at it normally it looks like his eye is a blur and a lot of his hair is missing, but close up the eye looks gouged out, but it is smooth feeling not like there is a gouge there. The back is normal. Thanks

That would be Post mint damage . It was somehow worn down by anyone's guess but it definitely 100% damaged .

I agree with the Post Mint Damage.
May I recommend you study the following sites. Error-Ref and Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties
These two sites will help teach you about what a variety/errors coin looks like. I cannot stress enough how important it is to not just read the sites but to study them in depth, until they are seared into your brain.
I also suggest that until you learn the above and what can and cannot happen to a coin at the mint. You need to stick to looking for known errors. You will find what the TPGs will recognize as varieties on the PCGS web site. This will save you a lot of time in having to take photos and then posting them, only to told it is not what you think. The last site I would recommend is Glossary of Error Variety Terms. This last site will help you understand the terms we use, also it will assist you in helping us, by being able to explain what you are seeing and why you think it is what you think.
May I also recommend these short video on making money by the US Mint. US Mint Making Money Series
