1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.

2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.

3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.

4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.

5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.

6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.

7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. Here's my grading mistake

#1 Unread post by Funky Strike »

Funkmeister here! Found this one on a hunt and it was a head scratcher to me - Then I saw Daniel's video this morning:

I have a 2019-W First Day of Issue American Silver Eagle that PCGS said was SP70 (Perfect)

However, You can see damage on the Obverse - Can it still be "70" with those dents in it? (Not even sure what may have caused that since I'm assuming it's fresh from the mint.

Just thought I would add this to the discussion - Buy the Coin - Not the Holder!

Thanks

Michael - Funky Strike

Yes, I agree, I was very disappointed to find out how many shenanigans go on behind the scenes, I kinda thought that since TPGs were operated by coin folks they would have more integrity than my fellow travelers on wall street, boy was I naïve. One monster box graded, and not all coins looked at, money over integrity.

HEY, BILLYBOB, COVER THAT BOX WITH A BLANKET.

I had sent a 2020 End of WW2 gold coin to pcgs to be graded. I examined it before sending off with my 16x lupe and it was absolutely perfect. No flaws. It came back a PF70 but guess what, I saw a mark in the obverse field and it had a nick in it. I immediately knew it was one I did not want to keep so I dumped it. Be careful of these gradings. My experience unfortunately.

On another forum I have seen people posting coins damaged by the graders as well. The posters had before and after pictures...which was good b/c otherwise PCGS was all ready to deny it. In the end the PCGS "guarantee" proved to work out well...for PCGS 😡.
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
