Ok. So, I got this "free" with a Purchase deal , I've had it in an air-tite holder stored in a safe in a good environment . It's starting to tone on the Obverse (Red tone ). Is this suppose to happen ? None of my other coins are doing this . Most are in "Do it Yourself" slab style but a few are in these air-tite style . Does "toning" deter you from buying a coin ?
Don't worry . I won't touch it . Confused in Connecticut

It's normal for coins to touch. As a dealer I tend to buy what comes into the shop.

What are you saying, that coins touching caused this ? I got it New in 2004, at the time they were real cheap (about $6 ) and it was a MS-69 or 70. Now with the toning, I'm not sure .

If it was in an Air Tite - then I would assume it did not tone from external sources. It might have had something on it when put into the capsule. No, I do not know what :)
You may be able to get rid of the toning using a bottle of pure acetone (Walmart health and beauty section or paint department). DIp it in the acetone for 5-10 seconds (or more if the toning does not go away in that amount of time).
I do not buy tones coins unless I believe acetone will remove the toning. I do not care for tarnish although it can be beautiful and I can see why some people like it.

I think I'll just leave it for now and watch it . I taped around the holder since there was a small piece missing from the side . I'll tranfer it into a better one, later.
HERE'S a beautiful one on ebay :

Which might just explain the toning - a non-airtight Air Tite. :)SensibleSal66 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 4:37 am I taped around the holder since there was a small piece missing from the side ...
