#1 Unread post by Rjhyers »

Hi, if I could get some help with one of my Bicentennial quarters, I looked on wex but did not see the exact errors and again I'm new and again apologies for my ignorance. I am learning thanks to this site. If you can see what you see and direct me.
Thanks again,
Regina

I see nothing but damage and hits on the coin in the areas you pointed out. I am not sure what you are seeing in the last picture?

I also agree that most of what you see is damage to the coin . The date appears to be from die deterioration . They made over 860 Million of these !! It's no wonder there are problems .

Question for the group:

Do you believe that a "Die Crack" is considered an error?

Hey Paul, I am so glad you asked this, so many people find die cracks and think that they have found the "Unicorn".

So here are some Quotes from http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... efinitions

"Die cracks are very common in the Morgan series, and by themselves, are usually not a listable feature."
This statement is obviously related to Morgans, but it can apply to other coins.

"While most die Breaks are listable, most die cracks are not, though they can still be used as die markers."

"MOST" die cracks are not listable, however "they can still be used as die markers", in other words the die cracks can be used to verify a variety. I have personally done this, and it works, sooo the only reason I sent my VAMS out was for the Attribution "Swag", I knew they were VAMS.

So, to answer the question, no, it is not.
