Slice/Melted? 1966 Lincoln Penny

#1 Unread post by Quest4 »

Hello,

Found the attached 1966 Lincoln ¢ with what appears to have a slice/melted stripe running down the face. Gives the face a "two-face" look. The lettering is also affected. I haven't cleaned it as everything I've read indicates cleaning by the untrained could harm the coin.

See what y'all think.

This coin exhibits severe physical damage

What you are seeing, is a large deep gouge, and is not melted

Not melted. Think about it. The entire penny is the same copper alloy. How would you only melt two letters without the rest of the metal being affected as well? Instead, what you have here is some letters that took a hit (mashed down). The entire coin is nothing but damage al over.

It's not melted, it's from contact and the metal was gouged and smashed. No process, during the minting process, causes a coin to melt in any way.

No, it was to help everyone. I used your post as inspiration. No insult intended and why I don't use names and such.

Hi Daniel, I wished if noticed this earlier. I appreciate your professional advice; like most posters. Please use my coin images to help us all :0) I'm really into coins/currency b/c it's like having history in my pocket and that's my fun. If I find something of value more than face, that's a bonus!

Happy 4th of July!
