Welcome

This is a foreign substance on the surface of the coin....... where the reverse of another Lincoln cent was pressed into.

Are you saying like acid or like a puddy? Cause I've tried scratching it off with no avail. It's a piece of the penny...

Something like hardened glue. Posts like this are not uncommon on coin forums. Acetone might take it right off.

Yes, try Acetone but ONLY PURE , Not Nail Polish either. Has to be 100% at like at Home Depot . Be careful though , read directions . Just a tiny tiny bit too.

Fingernail polish can have dyes and fragrance added to it which can leave a residue. Thus on a collectable coin its important using only 100% acetone. As to the amount to use, it really does not matter. It normally takes little though. I have a baby food jar (can be sealed and therefore the acetone does not evaporate into which I pour in enough to cover the coin and then some.
It is not toxic. It cannot alter the metal. It is 100% safe for usage. Been there, done that. And...for many years (and easily over 1000 coins) with no adverse problems. Former chemistry teacher also.
