1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Indian Head Patina Question
Started getting involved in metal detecting two years ago. I've pulled a few Indians out of the ground this summer. They tend to have a green Patina on them. I understand I'm not going to pull an Indian from the ground and get an MS. Just wondering though, do dealers/collectors discount when an Indian has a heavy green Patina? I've provided pictures of two that are in somewhat similar condition, one with the green patina from detecting, the other brown and never in the ground. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Re: Indian Head Patina Question
Yes, it does distract from the value because this is environmental damaged and pitting.

Re: Indian Head Patina Question
Can someone define "environmental damaged" as Daniel put it in his response? Wouldn't all damage that causes a coin to be less than MS occur due to interaction with the environment? Does "environmental damaged" in the sense that Daniel used it specifically refer to detected coins from the ground?

Re: Indian Head Patina Question
I believe so . I too detect from time to time and most of mine are green also except a very select few . Unless it's a key date, I usually just store them away . The only one worth anything is my 1870 which I would have to try to sell on Ebay or another bidding site .
