The world is yer oyster
How about collecting a series of silver coins made for nearly 100 years, all with low mintages. Last produced in1967.
Too expensive ye says?!
Well check out Swiss silver francs and half franks from 1878-1967. Most are very inexpensive in VF and even BU in later dates. A couple bucks over melt in most cases. I never really paid much attention to these but recently purchased a collection. Was surprised when I looked them up in Krause.
What to collect??

Re: What to collect??
I got a couple with only 200,000 minted. A very low mintage for circulating coinage.
I did note that the portrait gets worn down fast. Most circulated examples that I have are graded (by me) at either XF or only F. Not many VF in nearly 100 examples from all years. And almost no errors, even piddley ones. They had good quality control but maybe that quality was due to low mintages. Probably never needed to refresh a die.

Very pretty design.
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
