Do any of you guys go to club paid hunts. The last one I was in I found 58 merc dimes and I won 3 morgan silver dollars. These hunts area a good source for silver.
My entry fee was a $100.00 for 4 hunts. 2 hunts for silver dimes, 1 new dollor hunt and a mixed coin and token hunt.

Re: Paid Hunts for silver
I'm hoping to go to one this may. I'm in a metal detecting club in my area and they are actually putting it on. I think it's only $30 to detect for two hunts. Not sure of what they are all planting, but I'm sure at least some silver. Do you use a large coil then for club hunts? I have a 12in, but it's hard to pinpoint with especially on dimes.
Re: Paid Hunts for silver
I use a small 5 inch coil on my E-Trac when I do hunts. I also carry a Garret hand probe detector with me. It make pinpointing easy.
Most of the hunts I go to are done in tall grass (they dont bury the coins)
Its easy to find a coin in the dirt.
When it is in 6" tall grass those dimes just flip around all over the place.
I dont know what machine you are using but you will have to watch out for cross talking. If you dont have a noise cancel on it you probably will get some chatter when you get close to other machines.
Some tips
Pick a line and stay on it, dont wonder.
Make wide fast level swings with your coil, dont lift the coil at the end of a swing
When you recover a target check the spot again, you might get a 2fer
Pay attention to your depth gauge, dont get hung up on something 4 inches under ground.
Have good deep recovery bag, you dont want to loose any coins.
I keep my detector strapped to one arm and recover with the other, same pattern on each recovery, its all about speed.
$30 for a paid hunt is not bad. If its a silver dime hunt you just need to find 11 and youve made your money back
Good luck

Re: Paid Hunts for silver
I use the Dfx and I have a pistol probe. Best pinpointer I've ever used. I've hit targets with the pinpointer 6 inches down! A little costly but worth it. Good tip on wandering I always seem to. I don't think cross talk will be too big of a problem since I doubt many people will come and there should be a lot of ground. I'm probably just going to dial the threshold way down. You don't think the 12in coil would cover more ground?
Re: Paid Hunts for silver
I have hunted with both big and little coils and for me its just quicker to pinpoint with the little coil. I swing fast and move fast when I am in these hunts so I cover a lot of ground. I like the pistol probes they are nice.
The last hunt I was in had 105 people entered. It was a mad house.
Good Luck

Re: Paid Hunts for silver
As far as I know there might be 30 people at this club hunt. My guess is 50 max. There is 18 people signed up so far. I hoping to clean up.
