1787 Copper Found

#1 Unread post by SensibleSal66 »

One more for ya all. This hunt was a incredible . My 3 friends and I hit this area deeep in the woods ( about 2 mile in ). On the way we hit Mud 2 feet thick, about 4 feet of water and a swarm of Mosquitoes all the way down to the first Cellar hole . It was wasn't the one we were looking for but we did it anyways . It was small with little area to detect . After 10 minutes of detecting and getting in each others way, two of them headed down to the one we were there for.
Me and the other guy stayed. As they left, not 2 minutes later I hit a section about 5 feet from the hole . It was silent until Bam, I got a solid 79 (white's XLT ) . I dug about 6 inches down in soft soil when a nice big disk stared me in the face . I was like Charlie In the Chocolate Factory when he found the golden ticket !
It was hard to tell what it was . One side looked like a British Half Cent . The other was caked with dirt . I soaked it in soapy water on the way home ( 2 hours away ) and when we got there I lightly removed the dirt to see this ! A 1787 CT Copper . Boy was I excited . My first one and they were P#@$ed for leaving the spot . Other than being wet and Mosquito bitten, one of them found one other coin . I think it was a Large Cent . I don't know I was too excited and tired at the same time.
After hours of research I found the Variety , A Miller 32.1 X .3 ( R-3+ Rarity ). It's a little toasty but it's been in the ground a long long time ( Over 200 years). I've seen worse on Ebay ( not dug) selling for quite a lot .
Enjoy and please give some feed back . Thanks Sal

Wow Sal, amazing find. I know nothing of values on these, but to find a piece of history like this is amazing. If only they could talk!

Thanks . Boy do I have some stories historically. Living in CT. near the MA line, there is a vast of historical places in the woods . Most of the cellar holes are just remnants of how life use to be.

That is a pretty cool find.

I looked it up in Mega Red book and I see a bunch of different varieties listed but it doesn't say which one that is.
