2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. Sample Slab with "grade" of FA 00
I recentlly came across 2 1964 50c coins, both in NGC slabs that say " Sample FA 00"
What does this mean about these coins? Images can be provided, but were not included, as there is a 1 coin per post rule, and the only image I have contains both coins

According to NGC...These are not graded coins, they are sample slabs given out to promote the grading service and the FA 00 is a meaningless code.

Exactly. They must be evaluated first .

Not necessarily, there is a market of collectors that pay a premium for old/hard to find slabs. However in these cases, they are most likely buying the slab and not the coin...IMO.

Now in THIS case (no pun) , it makes sense!... they are most likely buying the slab and not the coin...IMO.
What would be fun is if you examine the halves and find out one is a DDO, DDR, or RPM (look them up on varietyvista.com if unfamiliar).
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):

Re: Sample Slab with "grade" of FA 00
not mine yet; part of a collection I am making an offer on, wanted to do some further research
Will check to the best of my ability for the DDO's/DDR's, but there will very likely be no RPM's, as they are labeled as 1964 50C, not 1964 D 50c
