2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. 1893 O Morgan - Looks like a Fake to me!
Funkmeister back again for another hunt from the wild woods of eBay land!
Got this 1893-O Morgan in the mail today and it didn't smell right
Threw it on my cheap scale and it came up light - ran it down my magnet slide and it slid so fast I thought it had grease on it!
It's got that fake dirt toning look and the letters on the Denomination look "Funky" - but not in a way that I like my Funk!
I'm going to do a catch and release on this one - unless you guys think it's a keeper?
Thanks to this forum and the videos I'm not as easy to fool - So Thank You again for all your help!

I know they are just pics, but I am not having any red flags on this one.

If it slides fast down the slide it is not silver, as such it CAN'T be authentic. It looks fake to me, and doesn't have the appropriate mint strike I am used to seeing.

Re: 1893 O Morgan - Looks like a Fake to me!
Well...First I'll say forgive me if I don't use the right terms in describing what I see:
I thought the distance from the "N" to the "E" in ONE was awkward - but it is close the the picture on the PCGS site
The Coin feels light compared to the other Morgans I have
I thought the Legend and the Denomination letters were not evenly distanced from the rim and the letters are "sloppy" - they droop or have a weak Serif
The cheek is clean - So are the Fields - For such a worn coin how can it not have scratches or dents?
The whole coin is super shinny - but it's not luster
As always - Thank You for your insights!

Re: 1893 O Morgan - Looks like a Fake to me!
I am not sure how I missed the part about the magnet test failing!
As can be seen from my post on another forum with a fake 1879, I posted overlays to show how good the Chinese were at faking Morgans. That was almost a decade ago and they have had plenty of time to practice since then!
Fake 1879 MOrgan vs. Legit - Pics w/ Overlays
I assume the rim on yours shows straight and complete edge milling?

Sal,
What makes you think I'm "Calling You Out"?
I just wanted to know what you saw in the posted images, that's all.

Here is a side view of the Coin next to a "Real" 1895-O (Don't mind my fat fingers!)
You can see the difference - And the Fake 1893-O is rounded around the Edge as well.
Thank You again for all your help!

Unfortunately, every time a comment & image are posted to a public bulletin board, or the Internet in general.....
That information is then used to eliminate those flaws, and improve on their deceptiveness
