1939 Nickel

Only posting to share the cool find. Found this 1939 nickel in my change from the local gas station. Just thought it was pretty neat to find such an oldie. Everyone have a good one and stay safe.

Agreed, its fun to find them. When I was a kid in the 69s and 70s they were more prevalent and I saved every one I could find.

BTW - Two REV types were used for this coin in 1939. One was the same design as 1938 (Type I "REV of 1938") and the others were the design they used in 1939 and onward (Type 2 - "REV of 1940").

Yours is a type 2.

BTW - The professional (?) grading company websites seem unaware of the differences in the S, which is the simplest way to ID these. The only way grading companies show to ID the different REVs is to compare the steps. But the steps do not show up on coins that are not early die state...which is most of them.
