I have been attempting to do an inventory of my coins for last month or so. Every time I start something happens to set me back. This time I made it to my 1978 uncirculated sets and low an behold both sets had that so ugly green on all of them, and I mean all of them (Yes even the cent showed signs). Which means they have giving no choice but to cut them out of the sets. The next issue is do I send them to ANAC, along with the 4 ASE's and two Morgan's which I have ready to send them for cleaning Opss I meant restoration. As for the restoration part it will not cost me any more on the fee. The one that would really, is that I would also have to get them grade after they "Restore" them. This will mean that the value of the coin after grading would in no way equal the grading cost. Win Loose or win win on a few of them. I have two 1978 dimes which might be FB from what I can see would need to grade FB MS-64 or better as listed on the PCGS, coin values. As for the one 1978 D that appears to be a FB, it would have to grade FB MS-65 or better. I am not going to go into all the other coins from the 1978 set. For some reason I really don't want to cut them out, but they are leaving me no choose.

Re: I didn't want to, but they made me.
They are stored in a room that has dehumidifier, it is set to keep the room at 60%. along with that I have those little pack in each box I have them stored in. So far the 1978 is the only uncirculated set that I have this problem with. All my other sets are not effaced. My 1963 PR, my three 65 sets, along with my 66 and 67 sms sets and all sets to present time. Did the mint use pvc celo at that time?
As far as my ASE's I know what happen to them. My wife took the from a place that my stepson could get to them when he started using again, I was in the hospital, in a septic shock coma. She thought she was doing the right thing (I think she did) and they started to tarnish, thus the reason I am sending them out.

Re: I didn't want to, but they made me.
....... are you sure you mean 60% ??
That seems awfully high,...... I keep mine in a off-site safe, with a reusable desiccant, which keeps it at 4% to 5%....
Keep in mind that those small "Silica Gel" desiccant packs do stop working eventually,..... I ended up buying the larger reusable style desiccant pack, about 10 years ago........ and every 4 months I rejuvenate it.
