Steel Quarter?

#1 Unread post by dynarb »

I was going through a box of quarters I just picked up from the CU a few days ago and ran across this odd coin. It had none of the obvious copper cladding one would find in the current minted quarters, had a very shiny finish and a very homogeneous color/texture throughout. My scale only goes to 1 decimal point, so is not exactly accurate, but it does weight in at 5.6g. Could it be steel or maybe Aluminum? The weight doesn't fit that bill tho. Any answers?

Interesting. It does not show the pattern of 'gooping,' being homogeneous throughout, but possible. I'll take it to the next coin show that I can get to and have it looked at/appraised. Thank you again.
