I was wondering if I could a few recommendations for a decent USB coin microscope? I bought on on Amazon but apparently the software won't work with my Computer. I have a New computer with windows 10. This is the one I purchased and is not compatible with my computer and their support is zero help. I need to be able to take pictures on my pc. Thanks

Re: USM Coin Microscope
I don't use a microscope and don't recommend them for newbies. I would use a camera and a 10x magnifiers otherwise you will see things on your coins that will confuse you.

Re: USM Coin Microscope
It seems like Paul is against Microscopes, at least for the new comers searching rolls. I really don't blame him. The microscopes almost always gets me, so for now I use my eyes first, a 10x magnifier second and then if I have to, will use the microscope last on the lowest setting I can get on it. Funny how much the microscope can lie to you
Thanks

Re: USM Coin Microscope
Thanks for the advice, everybody. What kind of camera to you all use? A Digital SLR? What Brand of camera and what lens? What kind of setup (software and hardware) do you need to view the images on a computer? Do you view them in real time or do you have to take a picture, download it onto the computer and then view it? My problem is that I’ve been collecting for years (though on a low level and I am newish to the variety field) and my eyesight isn’t quite as good, plus I have developed a number of aches and pains in various parts of my body that are impeding my use of handheld magnifiers. I am wanting a setup for examining coins for varieties (a la the Cherrypicker’s Guide, etc.) and based on some of the pictures, this requires extreme magnification and much scrutiny—and this really flares my aches. Especially examining many coins. Thus, the idea of just sliding coin after coin under a microscope and seeing it up on a screen under high magnification is very appealing to my body.
80X has been recommended, and looking how close up some of the pics in the Cherrypicker’s Guide and some websites are I believe it—I wish they would post the magnification used on every pic...
Also, what are any tips or tricks to using everything once you have set up whatever rig you have assembled?
I know that this is a lot of questions, but I could really use the help!
Thank you for your time,
PJ
