I know this way might not work for some, while others it may help. I am going to explain how I look for Doubled Dies or other Varieties. While opening the rolls of cents. I will sort them first by decade, next I will sort them by year (Example: I have one aluminum bread type container for each decade (they are fitted with a very soft material)). They are labeled 1910 - 1919, 1920-1929 E.T.C) and next I will take one of the decade containers and sort those into years, each year has a dixy cup (10 cups) For me I find it easier to search by a single year then trying to go back and forth between each year randomly.
After I have sorted them by year, the first thing I do is open the following sites each in its own tab. I open (not always in this order) Variety Vista, Copper Coins, Wexler’s Coin and Die Varieties and Error-Ref. I would then open Copper Coins and do a search for the year I am working on.
Using Copper Coins is quite easy. On their site located on the upper left side click on, search the site, Die Variety Search. When the next page opens you really shouldn’t need any help. I will take you through it any way. At the top enter in the starting year (the year you are going to search). Next on the list check both Philly and Denver boxes because at this point, we do not know how many Philly or Denver coins there are in the year you are now searching through. Next you should check both; Double Die Obverse and Doubled Die Reverse along with Mint mark variety. After doing this click on Submit Search. You can scroll down the page(s).
This will give you an idea of what you want to look for paying attention to the higher priced coins. If you think you have found something, seeing as you have Cooper Coins open just bring forward to check. If you don’t see it on Copper Coins you still have 3 more sites to check.
Don’t rush to thinking you have something. After checking all the sites, and can’t find what you are looking for, try rotating the coin around, looking at it from different angles most time you may find that is what you think.
I hope this is useful for someone

Re: SEARCHING PENNIES
Nice system.
While I don't sort by year I open the same variety sites up as you do.
Coppercoins.com will have a variety number of other sites cross-referenced if CC knows it. You can then check those other sites for additional images for markers.
