So went out and purchased a new set of reading glasses in hopes that this would help …. not at all grrr. Therefore I have determined that a microscope (preferably with a camera) is needed (sorta knew that from the beginning). My budget is around 300$ …. Just guessing I have at least that in an accumulation of pocket changed tossed into jars, boxes, and what have you over the years. About the best I can do right now is tell a wheatie, from a memorial, or a shield. Hence I am hoping that with the enormous amount of experience out there that I can get some input/recommendations PLEASE. I am guessing that the entire weight of my "pocket change"; varying from 1$ pieces to 1 cent pieces goes upwards of a hundred plus pounds. Did try to tackle this with a loupe …. bad idea. Next figured I would make an attempt at gathering as many of the types and varieties as I could, another huge task I am sure; but am pretty positive I will be needing a scope for that as well.
I would be most grateful for any guidance on choosing some sort of microscope. Thank you ever so much lee

Re: microscope needed for these old eyes
I use a Plugable 250X microscope I got at eBay for $35.00. It does a great job. Save images to the hard drive so you can post them, email, etc. One thing I have discovered is that those close-ups reveal more to you than someone else sees. What I mean is that 250X scope will go far beyond what an attibutor is willing to go. They seem to want to view coins in the 10X area. Although if you go to Wexlers and look at the images, you will see images that are more inline with what I see with my 250X scope. In short, I wouldn't spend $300 on a scope. Grading, apparently, is done at a much lower power than you will get with an expensive scope. You can see what my scope images look like if you do a search for my posts here at this forum under the user name ave13co.

:welcome:
I would recommend that you start small.
You might find this a little more complicated than you like....
You can upgrade as you go along...
:eureka:
My current "Search Scope" cost me $1000..........
I don't expect anyone else to spend this much, but I need it for my position.
