What's Your Prize Coin ?

#1 Unread post by 2centsal »

Hey Guys/ Ladies ! I usually don't like to ask personal questions for Obvious reasons, But I have to ask . What's your Most Expensive Coin you Own or have own ? A PM will do if you are worried about telling people publicly . Your Info. is secret with me .
I would say mine has to be either my 1964 small motto 2c that I found Metal Detecting, Metal Detecting I say !! Either that or a 2006 Krugerrand in Proof condition, a 3 pc. set of MS66 Wisconsin Quarters ( regular, extra low and extra high Leaf or one of my Error Coins .
Speaking of Error Coins, I think that collecting Error coins is probably the best way of increasing the value of your Collection a lot easier than buying a Rare Known Coin . You know what I mean ? Especially if you can find a seller that seems to not be too knowledgeable in Errors and Varieties and has them for sale as if they are just Common Coins. I've found several Error Coins that I got for cheap compared to their normal Value . I tell you people, Paul has a good thing going on with some of the Error Coins he has shown Us . If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't know what to look for in my quest for Treasures . This year alone, I bought 2 Coins for $175 that are worth at least $300 EACH !! Thanks Paul !

ty sal,
most valuable?................mmmmmmmmmmmmm, that's a hard one. i hve 258 'slabbed' coins, & about 400 or so 'raw'. 98% are full attribute errors. most flying eagles, 80%? QUITE A FEW, non-FE are not 'listed' varieties yet, & would be classified as 'minors', but i do have some 'un-listed majors', that are killer-dillers! i'm not much of a "glory hound", so i've just not gone through the formal process of having them cataloged, & my 'name' as "discovery specimen" guy. i occasionally shoot a pic of these 'new finds' to mike ellis1, who i chit chat with, only because he appreciates a 'good find'. i usually throw the worthy ones in a slab, just to preserve them, then mail them to myself in a sealed bubble mailer, just so i have the 'discovery date', the canceled postmark, as a so called document of 'when' i found it. this kinda suks, as i can't look at them again, except the images i took....until i found d here,....now i post them here, as a 'found date', if you will.

NGC is the company i use to seal up my coins, only because they have the best overall quality/design of small rectangular plastic containers on the market today. they are a 'coin value' fee based company....so if they "value" you coin at a higher 'tier', you need to pay them the difference in 'slabbing charges', before you will get your order back. PERIOD! i have had several coins 'tier upgraded' to the "walkthrough" fee of $125. goofy?..... yea. did they do any more work for snapping the lump of metal in a 4 prong holder, & sealing it up? nope. but this is the 'game' you gotta play here....

so, as for most valuable?......uuummmmm, i do have what seems to be a "dot n", reverse indian, that just might be one of those "catch a thief", coins.

Both bought as "normal" coins and found to be varieties later.
