1910 $5 Gold Indian worth grading?

Is this coin worth grading? I see a bunch of these in MS61 and MS62 on Ebay and they are nowhere near this nice looking...according to my untrained eye.

We can't tell you if your coin is worth grading based on a potential grade. Please do not ask that here, please. Only you know how much you have in this coin and you need to learn how much is cost to join the grading service and their fees. You can find that on their website.

Id probably send it in. Just be prepared to wait. Worst case is it gets a lower grade than you think. But it should be easier to sell having it certified.

But at how much loss of profit? And gold will sell whether slabbed or not on ebay b/c the buyer can get their money back if not a legit coin. The companies love people to automatically throw money their way.

Better idea:
You need to get an idea of what the slabbing will cost you (including membership fees, postage, etc.). Get an idea of grade using photograde. No, you will not get an satisfactory answer b/c grading is not a science. Thus it means the ones on photograde, if re-slabbed might not be the grade they are showing!

Understand the above and know you are gambling no matter what. Find SOLD prices for the coin slabbed at the several grade levels you might think it fits the pics of. Then calculate in eBay fees etc.

Only then will you have an idea of whether or not you profit best from slabbing it. Like anything else of value, this is not a simple yes/no situation - homework required.

I think most people that have a clue about coins enjoy sending them in to see what grade they come back. Its like a game, expensive but potentially very profitable. And just like Poker the more experience you have the better your odds will be. But you will never learn without experience.

This IS the mindset the companies love to have people believe. But the companies are just businesses wanting to stay in business (aka. make a profit).

I have been researching the facts behind these companies and keep coming up more and more disappointed. For a real eye opener, using only PCGS data and pictures from their own website, I wrote an essay linked in my signature. I encourage you to read it for a real eye opener. PCGS's level of incompetence on a rookie level (in the specific area of the essay and therefore possibly others) is a really sad thing b/c it has cost multiple collectors (and continues to) thousands of dollars.

When someone like Daniel who deals, lives, eats, and breaths, coins cannot predict what the company will give, and he therefore cannot make a ton of profit all the time, this fact should be the first clue something is amiss with the general mindset concerning these companies.

I am not saying people should not enjoy the slabs if they like them - of course not! But I am saying the companies are given way more of a reputation (through blind faith TPGS are THE hobby experts) than what is easily demonstrated by their own product. The problem is after people invest a lot of money into the companies, those same people don't WANT to know about the the many problems and flaws.
