1886 Morgan Dollar DDO VAM-20

#1 Unread post by Scuba21 »

Is this an example of an 1886 DDO VAM-20? The pictures I can find online mostly show doubling only on the "1". This example appears to show doubling on the entire date as well as the stars.

That's die striations and cold metal flow from the stresses on the die during the strike and pressures wearing on the die cavity's edges, but not a doubled die.

Hey Scuba, I just had this one and two others attributed. This is a pic of the 1878 8tf VAM 23 top 100. Here is the doubled O in the word one, it will give you an idea of what a doubled letter looks like on these coins. Oh yeah where were you certified, me 1972 in Miami, NAUI.

Thanks Daniel. I think I knew in my heart that it wasn't but wanted another opinion.

Coin Mule, I got certified late in life (mid 40"s) in 2000 in a quarry in Bloomsburg, PA.

The pressures that the minting process places on metal are interesting, it causes the metal to act in a very "elastic" manner and flow, fascinating process.

Just to clarify here...... this is not "Doubling".
