1913 S Barber Dime found for melt!

#1 Unread post by monsterbug1 »

Recently found this cull 1913 S barber dime in the junk silver bin at the LCS. I am wondering if there is any way to remove the lighter-colored surface dirt that can be seen on the upper left of the obverse

And if what Sal said does not work, try xylene.

Looks like a dig find - any of the above suggestions can only improve its condition! A shame to relegate it to melt status without the old college try...

Keep us posted, Monster! Best of luck!

i'll run it through some acetone I have and see if that helps. I may also try olive oil, as I have had success with it in the past. It is definately rather exiting to get such a rare coin for 2.60; it actually has/had decent detail as well

Weigh it or have it tested, could be fake as well. If not it's a good find.
