Thank you for the info! I am just getting back into the hobby. Is my grade accurate, or can it be higher? Grading from pictures is not reliable b/c of lighting issues, focus etc. And don't get too hung up on finding a "right" grade on any coin b/c the companies themselves use nothing veri...

Sorry for the mismatched pics taken under different lighting, but this was long ago before I looked into getting good coin pics. Norfed_Gold_COin_Cutout_1.jpg THis is a NORFED coin. This is a misaligned die error. (M.A.D.). You can see that term at erro-ref.com for an explanation.
This little of an alignment is not all that rare. A MAD coin has to be much more dramatic to bring a premium.

Just a very damaged coin. This is nothing the hobby would collect/value. Most odd looking coins are just post mint damage. The focus is good for being hand held.
Even lighting with multiple sources will help. I mentioned this, and posted the link since in the last photo you posted there are shadows or dark areas across the face of the coin.

Try lighting it uniformly and posting more pictures. The shadows are making it hard to see. I went back and looked at the first picture you posted and admit the area looks different to me in that first picture than it does in the closeup.

I agree with the idea of using something verifiable for grading. And basing the system upon already graded coins therefore includes the human opinion. With the pics provided, it looks like post mint damage we see here often on US coins caused by the circular mark left when a coin roll crimping machine is used ("Ring of Death").
