It takes quite a while for the TPGs to "accept" new finds. Getting a designation is a first step and that's awesome, but it would not get labeled as such. So, don't waste your money.

Re: Is it worth it?
I've collected a full set of IHCs raw and a full set slabbed. Overall, I prefer the slabbed set for storage, protection, handling, and viewing. I never sent a single one in to be slabbed. You pay a premium for a slabbed coin, but it is typically less than what it cost to have the coin slabbed. So, i...

Before she was Lady Liberty, she was the goddess Columbia, given to us from English history going all the way back to the Roman Empire.
Being that she is and always has been fictional, I'm not moved one way or the other by this coin other than it is a beautiful design.

Would you find this on a coin today?
Many older coins are very politically motivated and attempted to send a strong message to the public. For instance, this Roman coin shows two Roman enemies captured and tied up on the ground with a sign between them indicating the leader (Crispus) has given them 10 years of prosperity. A quarter is lathed to create an insertable space and then a second coin lathed to create the insert is made. Insert is glued into the lathed space on the first coin.

A grader would see these and assume the coin has been cleaned since the fields are usually the low point on the coin and not subject to as many slide marks. (Especially right u...

Then, it becomes dependent on the photo, lighting and setup. The AI may have seen a lot of graded examples, but the grade is still dependent on circumstances of the setup if we are using a phone app. A third party version would be more likely to be standardized when photographing. But, they may not ...

Paul is correct... practice, practice, practice.
When you use diffusion light, a directional light from a short distance away will add "life" to the coin. Usually from a low angle. Extremely effective when shooting encased coins to hide scratches in plastic.

Yes. A shooting box helps remove the wrong lights. When I'm shooting my museum shots, I even turn off other lights and shut the blinds so that only the shooting box diffusion light and my one directional light are being photographed. You can get really cheap ones on eBay or Amazon for about $10. I l...
