Here's a pre 1933, 1894 $10 Gold Liberty Eagle in UNC. I rather like this one. One of my grandfathers was born in 1896.

Re: Could this 1965 quarter been struck on a nickel planchet
No, this is a post mint altered coin. It would weigh the weight of a nickel and not show copper if it was a nickel planchet. Remember that, if a coin is struck on another planchet then it must weigh the weight and actually look like that planchet.

AI coin grading would have thousands of already graded coins in a data base and eventually a baseline would slowly develop of each grade. So when a like coin is entered it would give it a grade and reject or regrade those that ...

What makes you think it could be a candidate for grading? Do you own or use a coin price guide? The coin is worth less than the fees for grading.

I don’t agree. We need the bad to know what good is but to educate ourselves so we don’t get involved in the bad. All of the pros and cons of this hobby show it’s a healthy hobby. For example, why is no one creating fake beanie babies? Because it lost its healthy market and value, so the more cons y...

No way to really answer you questions since we didn’t see the coin before it was graded. We can’t determine exactly what is going on with the coin using images. Why not ask the dealer? He had it in that bin for a reason.
