Re: Anyone been hassled while using a metal detector?

You cannot detect on State property in Delaware unless it's a beach. You used to be able to hunt county property but that was 20 years ago. Things may have changed. They are OK selling state property with heavy civil war use to housing developers with bulldozers, but detectorists can't be on it.

Re: Why is my Jefferson nickel rusted?

I'm guessing it's just corrosion from being in a harsh environment...maybe in the ground or in seawater. If I remember correctly the alloy is 75% copper.

Re: NOT ONE CENT 1963 Indian head

It's a civil war token. Looks like an Emil Sigel die (note the E.S. on the obverse). I ascribe it as 62/367 based on the obverse E.S. and the star placement near the feather headress and "ONE" distance to the wreath. It's a rarity 3 (501- 2,000). Value can be found on eBay. Probably $25-$35.

Re: Mint error or spooned? 1984 Nickel

I would have guessed drier coin because nickel is so hard and the edge is so uniform, but it's just a guess. I'm not an expert in this area. Side note: I once interviewed my grandfather for a school writing project. He told me about his trip by ship to the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He said it to...

Re: 1929 S Lincoln Cent, is this lime build up?

It's difficult to tell from the photo and such a small amount, but it could be some verdigris beginning. If that's the case it could very slowly worsen with time.

Re: Post your Lincoln cent album/collection!

I also started with a wheat cent album after I found a 1918-S in my change and noticed the date. I proceeded to thoroughly clean it using the eraser of a number 2 pencil. There was no internet then and I had no idea that coin shops or coin shows existed. All I knew of coin collecting were the Whitma...

Re: Colonial Coins- Post yours!

I found this cut piece of silver metal detecting. It was very near an area where approximately 20,000 British and Hessian soldiers briefly camped before engaging with Washington and a small force of his troops in 1777. I also found about a dozen .75" musketballs there.

Looks like a CT. Copper as well! :D
I was hoping you would say that! I thought it might be a colonial copper but didn't dig into trying to identify it yet.

If you go, don't bring your phone. The first time I went I couldn't enter because I had a phone (recording device/camera) on me and there were no lockers to store them while you tour.

Re: Rare Coin - Discussion

Great post. Nice token! I think there are a couple things going on that impact the value of your token. Supply: It may be an R-7, but that token is available in several different metals: copper(R5), brass(R7), white Metal (R7), and a few other R7, R8, and R'9's. Also, both dies are available in seve...

Re: I am sharing my GC "Auction" experience......

Thanks for sharing your GC experience. I've bought from them but never sold through them. I've wondered more than once if the time of year plays a role. I've watched many items at GC that went for more than I was willing to pay, but at other times have picked up some great bargains - including a cou...

Re: Flying Eagle Friday- Post yours too!

The rim is OK on this one, I just don't have a pic outside of the 2x2. I love these fat cents. I'm a sucker for these and the copper-nickel Indians. Supposedly, one of the reasons the mint adopted the thinner, lighter planchets in mid 1864 was the public's readily acceptance of civil war tokens duri...

Just kidding. Thought I'd throw in a very unlikely topic (similar to Sal's type posts) and see where it goes. Post any coin you have that displays a rooster. Of course, I have a copper and silver example for you... NY630BH-2a (3).jpg Very cool die crack on that token! I don't recall seeing a cracke...

Re: Would you find this on a coin today?

These types of coins/tokens interest me as well. I'd like to find a nice End of Pain token someday. Paine was so important to the American Revolution but such a pain in the rear to King George.

There may be a novelty value to some and maybe they'll comment here. To me, no. In fact I have two NGC coins mislabeled that I want to get fixed because they bug me. Even further, there's a pricey (for me) PCGS coin I want right now that's mislabeled and I'm not going to buy it at the current price ...
