My best investment for Coins

I just wanted to express that since I joined here, I knew very little about Error Coins . I've come to realize that with experience and patience, there are a ton of Variety/ Error Coins online selling as a Regular Coins because more attention is put on the Grade and the Rarity . The best thing I did...

The problem using a USB Microscoes

Sorry about how long this post is. I am as guilty as everyone else when it came to using a microscope to search my coins. After a few comments by someone I will not name, told me a number of times I was trying to hard. At that tine my thinking was how could I be trying to hard, after all it was rig...

Re: 1992 Penny Error

I agree with the above assessments. Even a major off center cent where the date has been affected (missing) is often less valued than one where the date is discernable.

Re: 1992 DDR?

While still a bit fuzzy when enlarging them, I am pretty sure what I see is some strike doubling (SD) and maybe some Die Deterioration Doubling DDD. MD occurs when the dies the coin is struck with are physically loose in the press. The dies "bounce" during the strike and you end up with wh...

Re: 1992 DDR?

Correct! Keeping such things makes for good learning tools. You will find as time goes on that you can fill a room with MD and/or DDD coins. They make good teaching tools. Sometimes a drastic MD coin is fun to save. Kennedy Halves can readily be found with MD and I believe its b/c the larger diamete...

Re: 1982P and 1992P Dimes - DDR or Just a REALLY GOOD strike?

In your images, this looks to be a extremely late die state coin...... from what I can see. It's important for everyone to keep in mind that "Internet Image Attribution", IS NOT a recommended action for anyone. :eureka: ...... the gold standard here, is to inspect all coins firsthand. Int...

Re: 1982P and 1992P Dimes - DDR or Just a REALLY GOOD strike?

Thanks Paul for your wisdom .The bold print helps with my deteriorating eyesight . I have a Dino light bought from Paul, so it should do the trick, no ? Remember Paul ? There are a few types of doubling here's an easy explanation at coinsite.com . Just type shelf doubling in the search box . :s Here...

Re: 2019 P Northern Mariana Islands DDO-001

Thanks karl.bursa. I think these are going to be somewhat rare because I haven't seen many over the past year. Could be because so many disregard die deterioration and won't even look to see if there is also true doubled die combined with die deterioration as often happens

Re: Seeking a Quality Coin Scale Recommendation

Mine is so old, I don't think they make the exact model anymore.... But, it is a 20 g, .001 scale. :eureka: I do remember my search criteria........ As I used, "Jewelry Scale" for my search criteria. I wanted something that would weigh out to the thousands (.001), & only go up to 20 g...

Re: Block Island Quarter Blob

These appear to be "Minor Die Chips" in your last image here.....

Try imaging these within an alternate light source at a severe angle, ......trying to make them cast a shadow so that they will "POP" when you look at them picture you taken.

Re: Cumberland Island Quarter Die Chip

Re: 1970-s Lincoln Cent

Looks like Mechanical doubling .The height of the second Letters/ numbers have to be the same height as the main numbers/letters. Not "shelf-like ". Check this site out :
