Coins in Cardboard
I met an older gentleman in my Church today. We went through some coins he had. Of particular interest were 2 1964 Kennedy halves that apparently came in the mail. The coins were still in a cardboard cutout with the details about the coins. Anyone familiar with this>

Penny Toning
I'm probably asking a stupid question but I'm gonna anyway, you guys are great.
I recently bought coins at a auction; in particular some old wrapped Penny's. There are several with original luster that are toned...is that common?

Magnifier
I recently bought a magnifier on Amazon for like 40 bucks. It does okay, but I got what I paid for. I'm looking for some feedback on ones that are good for under 100 dollars. Daniel, I like the one you recently reviewed but too much for me.

I'm assuming you have to purchase a holder, separate?
I've tried to hold mine without the holder and I'm a bit too shaky. 149.00 isn't a stretch but another 50-60 for a holder and I'm gonna have to get a part-time job.

Remedy for a cold day
I was able to buy some coins from an estate today; first of several more times to look at a collection.
Here in North-West Iowa, it’s about 3 degrees and the wind chill is about -10.
I cannot think of a more relaxing, warm thing to be doing.

Re: 1854 Seated Half
Well the acetone took the glue from the tape off on the reverse.....
Note to self, don’t pour the acetone next to your IPad keyboard (plastic)..it eats the plastic.
Luckily the 6 keys that got splashed still work.

Re: Anyone been hassled while using a metal detector?
Permission and detective work are key! With todays technology, there is a plethora if info available; old maps of your area are easy to find. If you live in a rural area, ask some of the land owners if you can detect after you do your homework. Most are totally ok with it as long as cattle are not o...

Scotch Tape
I had a great time today, picked up a handful of Morgan's, Peace Dollars and nice Wheat and Indians from a Church friend. My question is more for the experienced collectors; Several of the Morgan's are AU but they also have scotch tape marks across them. How much does that ugly tape mark detract fro...

Re: Junk silver
I guess it's personal preference...
Are you buying just Bullion then now the price is down a bit but the premiums are still a bit stiff.
If you are buying constitutional silver, my opinion is it's always a good time; although the prices are up as well.

Re: Coin Shop Shoutout
I have a good friend that just moved back to my town after being in AZ for several years. He opened his coin shop back up so it's nice to go and use his Sig machine; he likes to shoot so I take him to the range and it's a wash.

Curious if the shop you purchased the coin from had a Precious Metals Verifier? Like Daniel stated, have it authenticated; Hopefully it’s not a fake...

Re: Anyone been hassled while using a metal detector?
I think the big thing to consider is we are all from different places in the US. Be sure to look up local laws and talk to your local Department of Natural Resources or Park Ranger etc.

When using Acetone, move your computing device. In my case, IPad keys and Acetone don’t mix well together.

Re: 1923 2 over 1 penny
I am confused. You post a picture identifying your coin (DDO DDR etc). I feel as though you are telling the community what you believe it is; if this is so, why are you asking? Please look through this forum as there many references to websites that show actual doubling, also sites showing die breaks.

Re: Insurance for collection?
I asked my agent (State Farm) about this for coins and guns. I was told I'd need an itemized list including appraisals from a dealer.wilkinsp21 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:52 am what about for fire damage? it would take a lot for coins to get damaged or melt in a house fire?
I have a rated safe and that's a whole lot easier for me.
