Counter Die Clash Mint Error Type 1 – Type 2
Counter Die Clash Type 1
If a planchet is not in the coining chamber and the hammer die impacts the anvil die then a die clash occurs. If these same clashed dies impact each other again then this creates a type 1 counter die clash. In essence the already clashed marks on the opposing die “re-clashes” with the opposing die creating clash marks with mirrored appearance and be off set from the original position.

Counter Die Clash Type 2
If a piece of stray metal gets into the coining chamber and is struck by the dies this imparts part of the coin design raised on the stray metal. The struck piece of stray metal then is impacted by the dies again and imparts this part of the design into the die face. Then a planchet enters the coining chamber and is struck by the counter clashed dies.
It usually occurs on one die since a planchet can be involved but can include both dies in rare instances.
