1872 $5 Barber's Amazonian Head Half Eagle, Judd-1241, Pollock-1383, Low R.7, PR64 Gilt NGC
William Barber's "Amazonian Gold" design, similar to the gold dollar pattern except the denomination is expressed as FIVE DOL. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Star 1 is about level with the sharply pointed bust tip, and the middle hair curl extends down to touch a border dentil. The lowest curl is thin and turns sharply downward where it quickly comes to a point. Star 13 nearly touches the back curl. On the reverse, the stars flanking the denomination are level with the base of the legend.
