Two PCGS 1.2 Generation Slabs To CAC And Back

We have two not often seen coins walk into the shop. One was a 1881 Three Cent Proof PR67 and the other a 1883 Liberty V Nickel MS65 and both in a PCGS 1.2 generation holder; this holder was used from 1986 to 1989.

The 1881 Three Cent proof was a choice coin, looks almost cameo and a grade higher so we were confident it would either upgrade or get the CAC “beanie”, and it did. We are still considering sending this in for a regrade, but if it doesn’t we want to keep it in this holder otherwise.

We thought the 1883 Liberty Nickel had a chance but the spotting on the reverse or the marks on the obverse, lower cheek, must have prevented a pass on the CAC sticker. However, the coin is solid for the grade and is in premium condition.

You don’t often see the 1881 Three Cent proof in this older and it was a “red letter” day to handle such a coin and hopefully pass it on to someone who enjoys and appreciates it as much as we do.
