Fake Coins
It's common to find fake or counterfeit coins like the Standing Liberty Quarter below. Many examples of coinage have been unlawfully reproduced using metal such as tin, lead or anything other metal that could have been cheaply obtained. Several methods where used to copy coinage, but we wont get into these details here.

The best way to discern fakes is by weight, or microscope or taking the coin to an expert. It's important to know how to tell the difference between a fake and an original coin, because there are a few examples of wrong metal planchets.
