John Chalmers Issues
A silversmith, named John Chalmers, struck a series of silver coins at Annapolis in 1783. They were all date 1783 and in the denominations of threepence, sixpence and shilling with different varities of the same design and in completely different designs. They were issued because people refused to accept the underweight cut Spanish coins, or "bits".
