1983 p dime with weird looking 3

#1 Unread post by mylcoinintx » Mon Jun 29, 2020 6:14 pm

Hello again. This time I have a 1983 dime that has some damage done to the bottom of the 8. The 3 looks like it melted. Will someone tell me what's going on with the 3? Is there a name of this situation? And what caused it? Thank you all for your time and

information. The first picture is of the top of the 3. Second one is the top of the eight. And the third one is of the bottom of the 8 and 3. I will be looking for a better camera so if anyone has a suggestion, I'm all for it.

Thanks for the full coin pictures.
If you are able to, and have the software know how, it helps to "Crop" the images........ so that the entire coin fills the viewing area

Using your images here for attribution, I'm going to say that the "3" in the date, was either a crummy punch, or there was heavy flow coming from that area near the edge of the coin

I would really need to see this firsthand to give you a 100% determination here

I would not consider this a big deal, or have any really added premium value ......JMO

Okay, I'll remember to crop the coins. Since it's no big deal, I won't waste any more of your time. I was just trying to see what was going on with this coin. I haven't seen anything like this so I'm very curious. Now I guess I'll have to look up what causes heavy flow on coins. Thanks for your time and info.

It is die deterioration and very common. You're looking at your coins to close.
