mechine doubling

Im courious to know how many times one single letter or number can be mechanically doubled?can the initial mechanic doubling be doubled also?

GOOD QUESTION.

I don't think anybody has ever asked that before. So,...

I think it's really a matter of description, used to differentiate between actual
'Die Doubling', and 'Strike Doubling',...

The terminology of "MECHANICAL DOUBLING" is most oftenly used to differentiate between real doubling and false doubling...
Although, I have come across a few coins that have been struck 3 to 4 times, showing very close 'shelf like' device edges.

As for your question about "ONE" letter or number being mechanically doubled, I think we would need to start discussing the physical deterioration of the die surface producing that coin.
