1972 D Cent D above date ?

I have a 1972 D 1 Cent D above the date

Howdy,

The stray 'D' is too big to be a mint mark and not shaped right to be a dropped letter. So, I'd put my money on it being a contact mark, or two, that look like the letter 'D'.
What happens when you shoot from another angle?

Interesting anomaly.
It appears to be recessed (incuse) into the surface of the cent.
