Ancient Roman glass

#1 Unread post by RomanGreekCoins » Thu Aug 02, 2018 10:24 pm

I was thinking about buying some Ancient Roman glass jewelry for my girlfriend. My question is has forgers tried to fake Roman glass? Can it be faked? and How can you tell if its real or not?

Anything out there has been counterfeited.
Not sure how to authenticate glass, so look for a reputable dealer.

Here is one of my dealers: Ancient Resources

Truly amazing!
Did you scroll down to the "Gold Glass" section and notice the detail on the gold glass medallion with a portrait of a family?
It reminds me of the clarity and detail of photos from the 1890's!!

Agree!

I saw that and couldn't believe it.
Even the lettering. I wonder how big this piece actually is?

Found on a cross after making it's way to Italy.
I think I saw something indicating about the size of a drinking glass bottom. Maybe 3-4"

As stated in my first post, I don't know anything about glass.

They look good. Hope they have some history and that she likes history.

They do look nice but delicate.
Wonder if they would hold up better in a bezel or metal border. Just seems like if they twisted the wrong way, they might break at the brass ring.
