1881-O PF coin

#1 Unread post by Trevor40 »

I am selling my late grandma’s collection & it was always stored & she never cleaned them because they were here husbands. I came across an 1881-0 what I would consider the best looking pf Coin I’ve ever seen. The closest info I’ve obtained so far is a man from the mint told me Philadelphia sent these out to all branch mints as examples but were later taken back this they shouldn’t exist. I’ve done microscopic test comparisons to coins that I’ve used the most modern equipment to buff it which is what the grading companies were telling me, but at microscopic level, there is no comparison to the legitimacy of the coin. Plus the coin over 20 years or more ago wouldn’t have been done that because it’s a key dat year. Something doesn’t add up & im hoping someone in this forum can help me. I’ll try to load the pics.

I’m a life time coin collector & have been a missionary my entire life & have a substantial collection. I love coins, I love the story they tell I know that sounds weird, but to me they do & being a CPA it keeps me from going clinically insane... I’ve live in Russia, China, the Ukraine all before the iron curtain dropped as a child. I bought gold antique coins for $20, for them that was a lot of money at the time & I had my Russian friend help me because once they knew you weren’t Russian, the price magically changed. I live sin Israel, the Middle East & some coins I’m still trying to find out when & where they’re from. I love error coins, while going to college I managed retail & bought every error coin I came across & when the coin counting machines came all these young kids would steel there grandparents coins and run them through not realizing a special cup inside caught all the Morgan and silver past coins it didn’t recognize. I of course bought all these as well. So you can imagine that coin collecting can be exiciting, but sometimes irritates my wife...... lol

To my knowledge, there are no Proof 1881-O morgan dollars.

This coin has been polished, which means PCGS or NGC would see the surfaces as "tooled". That will get a Genuine Details grade.

Why is there a poll at the beginning of this that is not related to the post?
Civil War Tokens
Morgan Dollars

You're coin has been polished and is not a proof or specimen strike or finish. You can find a lot of polished surfaced items at Walmart or most stores, where you can't see the polish lines. My brother worked for a chroming company and this is also a possibility with your coin.

1881-O is not a key date it is a better date in higher grades.

Welcome to the forum. Just so you know I took it easy on you this time. I know how all this is going to end and your not such a delightful character despite all you have done or brag about. The poll at the top of this page tells it all. This isn't my first rodeo so just remember that.
