Hello, all my name is chase. I started coin collecting this year. I have learned a lot about coin collecting and the values of coins.

What is your oldest coin? - My oldest coin is a shield nickel that has rays on the side that say 5 cents it's either 1866-1867 looks like 1867

Who inspired you to coin collect? I got inspired when my mom told me to sort some coins in her jar. And I saw this 1951 quarter and it didn't feel right just like all of the other coins. So, I did some research and from what I know today, the US Mint actually made an announcement on silver since they were running out of silver and silver Washington quarters you see today had been made in silver form 1932-1964. There are some 1965 quarter's that were accidentally made on a silver planchet. So, you may wanna find some quarters that are made from 1965 and check the rim of the coin. It will be silver (A white color). If it has 2 colors white and red, then that is not it. You are looking for a 1965 quarter with 1 solid color on the rim.

Thank you for taking the time to introduce myself.

Great questions! (And, welcome to the forum.)

My oldest coin:
Minted: Krannon, Thessaly
Age: ~2400 years old (400-350BC)
SNG Cop Vol. 3, Thessaly, coin 294.8

Maybe you meant oldest US Coin:
Not necessarily made by the US Mint, but was in circulation in the US about 1815.

I attribute my coin collecting to my grandfather who always took time to provide a coin for a piece of candy in the store and then tease me that I need to look at it closely because it could be worth a lot of money.
