2012 Denali quarter different colors and finish
I have this 2012 Denali quarter that looks the same in the front but a different material in the back.
Attach are the front and back pictures, a regular 2012 Denali is right next to it.
Please let me know what you think.

Re: 2012 Denali quarter different material in the back
One came from a mint set and has a different finish so it looks more like satin, the other is a business strike coin and is intended for circulation.
Re: 2012 Denali quarter different colors and finish
Hello, I am new to this forum, but I am a big fan of the CoinHELPu channel and videos. Thank you for all the information presented in those videos. This forum looks to be the most relevent to my question. I am looking to collect all the V75 privys out of circulation, so I am routinely searching quarter rolls for fun when I came across this 2012 P Denali NP. It looks like the planchet was sandblasted. When I search information on 2012 P proof sets that were released, they are reported as "being struck with a brilliant finish, which was superior to general circulation". It looks like satin finishes were released in 2010 and 2017. The lettering and design on this quarter looks sharp along with the texture being uniform throughout the coin. Do you think this is a genuine, or counterfeit, or damaged quarter? Thanks in advance to any responses!
Jules

I need images of the coin outside of the holder and this is important since the plastic acts as a light filter.

Re: 2012 Denali quarter different colors and finish
Thanks guys, below are some additional pictures I took. The weight is 5.7g (my scale only goes to 0.1g) which is close to the 5.67g copper-nickel clad. I don't have an actual 2012-S, but from the pictures I see, the texture of my 2012-P looks similar without the final "proof" die pressing (though I'm not an expert on the process). I was looking to see if it could be a pattern, but I have not found any information if there were any patterns. It is interesting though, because it looks like the US Mint stopped producing satin specimens in 2010, and then brought them back breifly in 2017? Do you guys have any more information on why they only produced satin finishes in those years?
Thanks,
Thanks,

I was able to grab two other 2012-P Denali quarters and I photographed them beside the quarter in question. (the quarter in question is in the middle).

Looking at the zoomed pictures the surface is very porous looking. It reminds me of the coins I used to put into nitric acid so my students could have a dramatic object lesson on how nitric acid dissolves metal. Its difficult to tell from pictures.
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):

Interesting, I never thought of that. Maybe I'll try that out on a different coin for comparison. Thanks!
