1838 seated lib. Dime doubled die?
Here's another encapsulated coin that was in with the 1858 canada 5c, it's a US 1838 seated liberty dime that has what seems to me to be some doubling on a few of the stars. I'm wondering if it's an actual doubled die, although i cannot find any known varieties that mirror this and i don't believe it's a one of a kind so it must be either a worn die, grease filled die or lamination issue. I hope it's doubled die but i won't get my hopes up until i hear from some professionals.
I almost forgot, do any of the numbers in the date look repunched or struck over another date? I may just be looking at it too long and my brain manufactured the errors i want to see.

using your pics here .....
i hugeeyes NO RE-PUNCHING in the date .....
i also think what you are seeing on the stars is just what is called a "striking anomaly" ... JMO

That's exactly what i was thinking, the die was maybe cleaned up by a worker that had a hangover from his illegal hooch and couldn't keep his file within the lines

The coin has been harshly cleaned and you are seeing some artifacts from this cleaning, as well as some possible die wear an fatigue that looks different because of this harsh cleaning.

Thank you Daniel i zoomed in and can see it now, scratches on the surface that look like someone used a brush of some kind on it, not to mention the dark patina still around the details like the date. I don't understand why someone would do such a horrible cleaning then have the knowledge and sense to encapsulate it, unless there were two diff owners..
Thanks again guys!!

Re: 1838 seated lib. Dime doubled die?
One more quick question on this coin, can anyone tell me if mine is the small or large star variety? I included a pic of each variety i found online as well as one of my coin. On the web pics of the large star it looks like there is almost no gap between the bottom left star and the rock she is seated on. Since mine is so worn and scratched up it looks to me like the large star variety, but there is a significant gap so i need a second, third and possibly fourth opinion on the matter, thank you in advance!
