Interesting. A few questions come to mind.
1)?? Why would this be considered an error?
2)Normal MD on a proof isn't considered an error, is it?
3)Is it because it is on a proof coin which is supposed to be free of flaws?
Thanks in advance for the heads up and any insight.

I agree. This is only legit because it is a proof coin, but not seeing these flying off the shelves and labeled as such in holders.

:eureka:
THESE ARE N-O-T CONSIDERED AS AN "ERROR".
that is why i made the post.
it's important to "READ" the information supplied with the images.

keep in mind, "PROOFS" are struck several times in the 'minting process'
the more hits, the declaration from proof, cameo, ultra cameo, to ultra-deep cameo.......as it goes.

Just reading:
"Is a legitimate though ignored ERROR type."

Probably why he called it an error.

well, i guess it's a matter of interpretation ...

so,....would a common 'die crack' be considered an "ERROR" ??

I most certainly did read ALL the information because I am always studying and love this subject.

Yes, the author called it a legitimate and ignored error. Strike doubling, die cracks, die chips, etc are all minor mint errors but are not dramatic enough to be of much interest. Strike doubling is so confused with doubled die that experts and old "schoolers" proclaim it as worthless damage.

I understand that premise and it is frustrating to see this confusion on a regular basis. However, as long as the collectors realize it is machine or push doubling then they can collect them and pay a small premium. After all strike doubled coins are still more rare than a normal struck coin of the same date and mint.

i hear ya D,.....i must just be one of the 'old schoolers' than.
it's just sad to hugeeyes the hoards of numismatically under-educated "buyers/flippers" overpaying (BIG) for common mint production run, so called "ERRORS",... that are no more than 'die wear/fatigue'.

:s of course, i've said it before, the "GREED" of turning a profit, far outweighs the want/need to actually "LEARN" something about the numismatic industry.........

just as an example,..... you can see at a 'popular' auction site for coins,.......
typing in "ERROR" in for the 'SEARCH CRITERIA',.......brings back over 26,000 hits alone. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!
.......& when you look at the 'sold/ended' listings,.....OH MY! :h

I am with you one that P but this is a common issue on many fronts in this hobby. Poor grading, and condition identification, fakes, bad selling practices, etc. just to name a few and no matter what we do it is not going to fix it all.

Detesting a minor error as damage and not an error is more confusing to a novice and is not a good practice. To them they can see something is wrong with their own eyes and telling them it is machine damage doesn't help them at all.

If it is strike doubling or die fatigue doubling or plate doubling then they need to know what it is, what causes it and yes it is technically an error but it doesn't add a premium to your coin.
