2010 Franklin Pierce Dollar coin error?

#1 Unread post by EdGonglefski »

Hi all,
not sure if I found a true error or not. I picked up a Pierce dollar coin from the bank today. However it is not the usual gold color. It is the color of a nickel all over. There is a scratch on it so i can see that it is a solid nickel color not just some coating. All the printing is correct on the coin so i don't think it is a copy or counterfeit. Any thoughts or previous sightings of something like this?
Thanks

It's an authentic dollar but it's more than likely plated in something. The chin looks like copper is showing. Have you weighed the coin?

Could be a reflect but when you look at the coins under a scope or good magnification you can see the flow lines from the die and one reason it's so reflective.

I was thinking the same thing. You can see some of the original gold color on Liberty's chest just above the "knot" to her cape.
