Could be D/D but would need to see this at different angles.

1938 D/D is always to the side the D/S is usually below but has a lump at top of the D this one
to me looks like d/s but more south was trying figure out if there are different varieties of the 1938 D/S the
mint mark on this coin is so flat and not well defined so its very hard to tell[/size][/b]

Repunched mint marks can be at an angle or direction and there's some that don't look like the "book", and there's new varieties discovered all the time.

e, i just don't see a OMM/RPM here....from these pics. i do see what your pointing at 'under' the mm....it does not 'look like' another mm to me. i know these slabs all to well. if you spin it around & look at it, what does it look like then? whistling2:

Also must consider the possibility of a broken mint mark punch. The D mint mark on these are not typically "filled".

Flipped it over still has a slight double to the bottom same as pictured i think Daniel is right about it being a broken mint mark punch The D on this coin is a little larger then a normal D and very thick its almost all the way filled
