1854-O SEATED LIBERTY HALF DOLLAR DIE CRACK? PLEASE HELP
Hi,
I have one 1854-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar with what I think is a die crack. The Die crack seems to be all over.... I would greatly appreciate your advice and knowledge on this type of coin.
1) is it worth any real high value
2) is it worth sending it off to be graded
3) if yes... is it worth sending the coin off to an auction site like Heritage auction.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Can I ask some questions first ? Where did you acquire this from ? The coin looks cleaned and the surface is out of character . that's all I want to say for now .

Re: 1854-O SEATED LIBERTY HALF DOLLAR DIE CRACK? PLEASE HELP
Hi,
my Mom gave the coin collection to me. She inherited soon after my Grandfather her Father pass. It sat in her closet for a little over 30 years. Until she gave me the collection. It was just in a metal box with a bunch of old coins. It seems like it was my grandfather’s pocket change box that just happened to have some cool coins. As far as this coin.... I did wipe it down with a dry terry cloth. But It did looked like that even before I touched it.

Die cracks are common on coins. You can look it up at NGC variety plus to see if they're die markers for a variety.

Please do not do anything more to this coin to clean it. Unless a terry cloth is pure cotton, it could actually scratch and damage the value of the coin by leaving minute scratches.
To evaluate whether or not to send it in, you need to find the fees, listing fees at Heritage, and sold prices for like date/MM coins in the same condition.
BTW - nice looking half!

Re: 1854-O SEATED LIBERTY HALF DOLLAR DIE CRACK? PLEASE HELP
Thank you earle42..... that’s great advice... I would never thought of checking to see what they’ve sold for in the past. I will definitely do more research. I really wish that I know a trusted coin dealer in my area to bring my coins to. I have quite a bit of old US coins to research and go through. Would take me forever and then some... Not to mention a lot of old foreign coins as well. Also a couple of old confederate paper notes not in the best condition, but not bad for being over 150 years old. If these Old currencies can talk... lol thank you again for your advice and complement.

I found a match for my coin. Someone on anther forum told me to check out “bill bugert's registry of liberty seated half dollars”. I Learn a lot about the coin. Not too bad on the rarity scale. I still have tons of old US and Foreign coins to go through. There’s still maybe hope for diamond in the rough coin. Lol thank you so much for everyone’s help. Learning something new everyday is fun. everyone stay safe and healthy

Great info! I have not gotten into seated halves as I only own a couple. I like them, but collecting a set is way out of my league!
