2015 Penny with scratch rings (obverse only)?

#1 Unread post by bigbird »

Hi everyone. I'm not sure what is going on with these 2015 coins. I have found several of these with ring like scratching to the front of the coins. Sometimes on just the right side of lincolns head, sometimes to the left, and sometimes both sides as in this photo. Watched your video on how the mint process works and was wondering if this could be caused by the fingers at the mint or later down the line of the process or even possibly PMD?

I'm going to say that this penny was on a roll end, and was damaged by a crimping machine.

Oh. Ok. So it is just post mint damage. We were scratching our heads on this one. Ha Ha. Thanks for solving. Much appreciated. At least now we know what is going on.

I agree this is damaged from the coin rolling process.
