1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). 1982 d penny
Hello I'm Dave I've been collecting coins for a few years now I make sure to check my pocket change consistently I've got a good collection of pennies this way. I found a 1982 D penny that appears to have what looks a 7 hanging from the bottom of the 8 could be my eyes playing tricks on me lol.

Re: 1982 d penny
Would not a be a 7 that is impossible. Sounds like a die chip or plating issue but images are very important.

Re: 1982 d penny
Thanks for the images but it is really hard to see any details when I enlarge them.
Usually this is the result of a contact mark pushing the metal around. If you look with a magnifying lens you will probably see scrapes and movement.

Sorry they were taken with my cellphone I'll try to take some better ones. I'll just set it aside as an oddity. Thank you for your input everybody.

hugeeyes ...
Trying to clean up your pictures, ... I'll guess that this is a "gouge" on the lower part of the 8.

Looks like a possible die chip or plating disturbance that is common. Please watch my video on taking coin images. It will teach how to hold the camera and to crop and rotate images

Re: 1982 d penny
Thanks for persevering to get the images posted.
Definitely a strong contact mark after it was minted.
