Is this rare? 1957 D Lincoln Penny Cent With Cuts

#1 Unread post by syvirathphan »

Good morning everyone. I dont collect coins and just happen to find two wheat pennies in a little bag with few words of description. One says 1957 D error struck on different planchet which weighs 2.7 grams. 1957 Wheat penny weighing 2.7 g instead of the 3.1g . Theres no deterioratiom Die deterioration would have NOTHING to do with the weight, as no matter what state the die is in, the weight of the planchet remains consistent. It could possibly be struck on a rolled thin planchet ,Also no environmental damage, causing it to corrode and lose some of it's mass or weight. Is it extremly rare to have to a 1957 D wheat penny error struck on thin planchet or any other explanations or answer to why that particular coin weigh 2.7 grams?? Now the next penny just happened to look like pic attach. Thanks for reading my post and any comments and info is appreciated. Have a good day.

The 1957 D cent in the images is post mint damage and would need to see an image of the other coin.

Here is a picture of the 1957 wheat penny that weighs 2.7 g. Also just wanted to say that by comparing with any other wheat pennies , Its noticeable by eyes of a smaller thinner planchet.

This coin is damaged as well and even if struck on a thin planchet would not be desirable to a collector to add value.

I have 1944 wheat that sticks to a magnet and weighs 2.6 or 2.7 without it being authenthicated it can be fake but I cant really tell with my own eyes . Afraid to send for grading etc due to losing possibility in a many differ ways

Welcome.

Yeh, unfortunately older coins with lots of circulation issues don't have much value, unless it is an extremely desirable variety.
It will be interesting to see images of your 1944 that is magnetic.

(BTW- Good images that enlarged easily.)
